Iraqi president to take part in Arab-Latin America Summit in Saudi Arabia

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Iraqi President Fuad Masum along with an accompanying delegation arrived in Saudi Arabia Tuesday to take part in the fourth Arab-Latin America Summit.

Masum, who is Kurdish, was received by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz at the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, read a statement by the media office of the Iraqi president Tuesday.

Ibrahim Jaafari, the Iraqi foreign minister, arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday to take part in sideline meetings prior to the commencement of the summit.

This is the fourth Arab-Latin American summit to bring together top officials from the Arab League’s 22 member-states and 12 countries from Latin America. The meetings, held every three years, began in Brazil in 2005, followed by summits in Qatar and Peru.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to attend the opening of the summit.
